No Tamerlain is just for a different fighting style it is not weak. Why would Rhunon make a weak sword for a rider. I think you mean when she was saying she had made the blade tips wider a hundred years ago and it would be a little less effecient than a new one, It may be a little outdated but Eragon even thought it was a deadly weapon but not meant for his style.

How could you tell? Are you Rhunon? O_O

Here is a quote from Brisingr.

In length, the sword was equal to Zar'roc, but the blade was wider and the tip rounder and the build of the hilt heavier. It was a beautiful, deadly weapon, but just by looking at it, Eragon could see that Rhunon had forged Tamerlein for a person with a fighting style different from his own.

Later in the book just a few pages while they are forging Brisingr. Rhunon said that she would make the blade tip thinner because Armor had improved. That is the reason that it is wider because it is over a hundred years old and armor was different then. Tamerlein is not as you put it "Blunt" just from a different era, and would still be VERY deadly in the right hands.

I'd agree. Tamerlein is a ferocious beast, just not suited for Eragon. Therefore, it's junk in the ways of Book IV's plot.

'Cause there's no point in anyone using it...except maybe the 4th rider...but I doubt that.
