If we are going to talk about movies, no point missing the three which were, in my personal opinion, the best war movies made till now. In fact, I preferred the movies to the books. Much lesser loose ends in the movies. No needless elements from the books were shown. Like the second movie, 'The Two Towers' best. What do you think of these movies? Do you prefer its books? Which one was the best according to you? Discuss anything and everything you can think about these particular movies...

Yeah, well, the books are usually better then the movies 'cause the directors have to cut parts of the book if they want to make it a 1h 30m movie.

LOTR is really the best war movie ever and there's no doubt about it.

Meh, haven't read the series so, I can't really tell, though, if it were for a movie, I agree that the LOTR trilogy movies are the best. I love all about them most especially the looks of elves. I think they did a great job at making them appear as if they were glowing. The creatures were good too. They seemed real. Anyway, if I would rate it, I would rate it 5/5.

I agree. The elves shown in the movies were much better than those depicted in the books (where they were constantly shown laughing and giggling and 'merry-making' -__-). The creatures are totally real. Especially the orcs and the winged beats of the Nazgul. If you looks at the was scenes, you'll realize that the ten thousand orcs shown in the battle look much more numerous than the thirty thousand Greeks shown the that movie 'Troy'...

I've only watched the movies, but the only thing that I got out of it that there was some sought of weird love triangle between Frodo, Sam, and that "preciousss' guy. the thing that I hear the most are; "Frodo! Sam!" and then a deep meaningful look, that is cheesily acted out. No offence to the movie lovers out there, but geez, that movie sucks.

*laughs* Oh come on Feral, you be jumping onto conclusions here. There's no 'love triangle' between Frodo and Sam and Gollum, though I agree that Frodo's scenes in the movies are the most boring ones, and you get desperate for the view point to switch to the real fight. Amusingly, its the exact opposite for the books IMO. The Frodo's parts keep you reading, the fight is a disaster...

The second movie is my favorite. The first one was alright, the second one was epic
and the third one sucked..why did it suck?
Because it takes too long, I mean, the battles are nice and all that, but at the end when you finally think it's over, it start again with frodo and the shire and such, I mean when Frodo's at the volcano we're all like just throw the damned ring in, but no..he gets possessed...I mean it takes too long.........

Yeah, if I had been in Sam's position, I'd have just pushed Frodo off the edge when he became possessed Razz. Relatively though, the end in the movies is much better than the end in the books. In the book when Frodo returns back to shire he finds that Saruman has taken over it, and he along with the rest of the Shirelings have to fight Saruman back. Its rather boring. The movie showed Frodo returning to Shire because they had to show him leaving Middle-Earth and sailing off to the Undying Lands. It was a prominent conclusion that Tolkien had made to the books and it could not be ignored...

Ya these movie's were GREAT like on the equal of Avatar. I liked all of them and Moria was cool. They are also supposed to be making the Hobbit movie which is supposedly coming out in a year or so in two separate movies which will be awsome.

I loved these movies. They didn't try to be as good as the books, they just presented the basic story in a film-friendly way and it really worked!
The second one was my favourite. Legolas sliding down the steps on an Uruk shield before jumping off it and stabbing it into an Uruk's chest... epic stuff.

No way DD! Why not? Have you read the books? I have never seen any better war movie to date! Not only the story line, but even the performances by all the cast was very good. And if you watched them in movie theater, there was no way you couldn't like em. I remember that scene in the third movie where Legolas takes down the Olephaunt by himself, and then slides down his trunk! The people in the movie literally whistled and cheered at that! Totally awesome...

Me Favorite part has to be the counting kills, or the pathways of the Dead.

LOTR is one of the best trilogies I've seen. I think the director did an extremely good job as LOTR is amazing. I don't really have a favourite movie, I thought they were all good. Although, The Return of the King had some pretty cool war scenes in it. And the part where Legolas defeats the Olephaunt (sp?) all by himself then slides down its trunk is pretty awesome.
