The title says it all. I will write a warning above certain poems that I think are rather bad.

Warning: Bad Poem

This is what happens when you let me, and my two friends Hannah and Megan make a poem about fossils and natural selection in a biology class...

A Fishy Fossil Poem
By Bob O.N. Woughter

Bob and Fin quite happy were they,
Until they died one awful day,
Upon the bed of the sea they fell,
And peacefully they lay, but not in Hell.

Above them did silt and muck,
Pile upon them, oh did that suck!
It squashed them and squeezed them, until they were flat,
And could not be moved, and that was that.

For millions of years they grew harder and harder,
Getting deeper and deeper,
Beneath the sea floor.

Their bodies decayed, but wait, no need for dismay,
Their skeletons and teeth are here to this day.
Their bones replaced by minerals as they wasted,
Their image in the rock will always be pasted.

Like an impression of their life, captured in stone,
Left alone until little Billie took them home.
So pleased was he with his findings,
Little did he know of the fossils beginnings.

The fossil record gives us evidence of those long dead,
And put the evolution theory into Darwin's head.
Collecting the fossils was no small feat,
Yet the fossil record is still incomplete.

The fossils show how species have changed,
And how their structures have gradually rearranged.
There are lots of missing links because so very few,
Have turned into fossils; they rotted away with their soft tissue.

Oh this record, so random and speckled,
Gave us evidence when scientists heckled.
It showed them the stages of how animals gradually evolved,
Step by step; mystery solved.

Natural selection means more adapted ones survive,
Allowing them to reproduce and thrive.
Positive characteristics inherited through the generations,
This resulted in species variation.

The many more that lie there waiting all covered,
May complete the fossil record when they are discovered.

***

This is the first of two poems that I shall post. If I actually decide to write a poem that isn't anything to do with school work, I shall post it here- but I'm not promising anything.

*laughs* Lord this is AMAZING! Awesome You and your friends have got my total compliments for this one. Worship Who's the "Bob O. N. Woughter" by the way? Anyway, I haven't enjoyed reading poems like this since the last time I read one of the Witch's ones. She usually incorporates sarcastic humour beautifully in her poems, and that make them always fun to read. And please post your next one. Absolutely can't wait to read it... ^_^

Me and my friends thought it would be funny to put Bob O.N. Woughter as the author of the poem instead of our names. Thanks for the compliments, will post the next poem soon.

Said that I'd post the next poem soon, and so I have. This one doesn't have a title, and was made up for physics homework. It's pretty bad. And is set to the theme of twinkle, twinkle little star.

Twinkle twinkle little star,
formed from debris in a nebular.
Gravity made dust spiral together.
A protostar formed with a rise of temperature.
The high temperature formed by gravitational energy,
a main sequence star, oh look! Already.
It happened when thermonuclear fusion occurred,
oh how this occurrence was absurd.

Hydrogen turned into helium, right?
Forming masses of heat and light.
Twinkle twinkle little star, perfect just the way you are.
Stays like this for quite some time,
cos all the forces are just fine.
Heat and gravity are all equal,
'til one day, then comes the next in the sequel.
All the hydrogen has run out,
so the star begins to pout.
As it starts to begin to bloat,
it puts on a bright red coat.
A massive, cool red giant!

Twinkle twinkle little star,
suddenly how dead you are.
As the inner part collapses'
leaves behind a hot dense core,
the sweetest white dwarf I ever saw.
It also made a planetary nebula,
as it ejects its outer layer,
dust and gas does it spray... er...

Twinkle twinkle big, big star,
how I wonder what you are.
When you died one awful night,
oh you gave us such a fright.
Giant then a supernova,
we all know the world is over.

Twinkle twinkle big, big star,
what a beautiful star you are.
Glowing brightly in the sky,
even more fusion. Not a lie!
contracts and expands several times.
Nuclear reactions forming heavier elements doesn't rhyme!
Eventually exploding into a supernova,
sending out gas and dust all over.
Leaving behind a very dense core- a neutron star,
so dense its bizarre.
If its big enough equals a black hole,
sucking in every single soul.

Twinkle twinkle little star,
how I wonder what you are.
In your life many traumatic stages,
this poem will stop us revising for ages.

Really? You think this is bad? I may have a biased opinion because I love what the poem is about but I really like it. Flows very nicely to twinkle twinkle almost all the time, rythms well too.

EPIC LINES!!! Lmao

*shakes with laughter* Awesome, just awesome. I would never presume to call it a bad poem because I have seen extremely few people write rhymes about school stuff. Can't imagine how you could write it so in detail, to be honest. Truly incredible. ^_^ And like you said:

It serves an ultimate purpose. Smile I'm starting to wish that they'd teach us everything in rhymes. Much easier to remember... Razz

I actually have to agree with artrain, it really is easier to remember, though it would make it a little harder on some of the teachers.

Well, because the teacher said that it was supposed to be on our own- yet it was me and 2 friends who wrote cos we managed to persuade the teacher- we had to make it detailed enough and a decent length so that the teacher could see that we all put the effort in.

It was rather hard writing it- still can't believe we managed to get thermonuclear fusion in a poem... if we manage to write another for another class, I'll post it. But I don't know if we will.
